Marcell Harris' Commitment Puts Gators 2013 Class to #1

Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators have received another 2013 commitment in 4-star safety MarcellHarris.

Derek Tyson of ESPN Recruiting Nation reported the news by tweeting, "#ESPN150 safety Marcell Harris has committed to Florida. Story coming soon. #Gators #Noles #Sooners#Longhorns"

This is a big commitment for the Gators for many reasons. One of those reasons is that they were able to out-recruit the likes of Florida State, Oklahoma and Texas for Harris' commitment, as is suggested in Tyson's tweet and displayed in more detail over

Being able to land such a talented player while simultaneously keeping him away from those schools is a big recruiting win.

With the addition of Harris,Muschamp's 2013 class now stands at 21 commitments. Furthermore, they have been bumped up to No. 2 overall in the nation. according to the team rankings. Even more important, though, is the depth that Harris will be providing the Gators in the defensive backfield.

Harris joins a class that already features 5-star cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, 4-star safety Keanu Neal and 4-star safety Nick Washington. The Gators have to be feeling very good about all the talent they're bringing into their secondary through this class.

What will Harris be personally bringing to the Gators?

He's got very good size for a safety at 6'1'', 207 pounds, but he also runs a 4.58 40-yard dash, according to He has the speed to patrol the secondary.

He has the athleticism, quickness and vision to play sideline to sideline in coverage, but he's also a very aggressive defender against the run. His size and physicality allow him to come down to the line of scrimmage and be a factor against the run or even on a blitz. He also projects to be a very strong special teams player because of his size and speed, at least early on in his career with the Gators.

Overall, you can't ask for a more solid commitment if you're the Florida Gators.

They add another talented player to their secondary in Harris, and he projects to be the type of defender that can really have an impact in more ways than one.
