Trey Burton: Gator QB Signee In Line to Replace Brantley

Trey Burton with Urban MeyerStanding only a torn something or other away from John Brantley's ascension to the throne formerly held by Tim Tebow, is 2010 Florida Gator quarterback recruit, Trey Burton.

But who is this kid?

The 6'3", 205-pound Burton is a dual-threat quarterback who looks to have the early inside track on becoming the Gators' backup quarterback to the presumed 2010 starter.

Burton stands in contrast to the more pocket-passing Brantley and will give the Gators a rather different look on offense should he develop as planned.

While it's commonly held amongst UF insiders that he needs to improve his throwing mechanics (heard that before?), quarterback coach Scot Loeffler will be hard at work to get Burton up to the task this spring.

The fleet-footed Burton likes to use his legs and with Brantley, could give Florida a one-two punch, much like the days when Chris Leak and a young Tebow shared time calling signals for the Gators.

Burton was the 18th ranked, dual-threat quarterback on Rivals.com , and his versatilty should encourage Florida's offensive coaches to develop a series of packages to keep opposing offenses off balance this year.
