Tebow Practicing Tuesday but Still Not Cleared to Play

Meyer and TebowAlthough the news spread throughout Gator nation quickly Tuesday that Superman had donned his pads and helmet again to practice for the first time since the concussion, the news that most of Gator Nation is dying to hear is still up in the air. Tebow has not been cleared to play Saturday night yet, and probably will not have a decision to play or not officially until Friday night or Saturday morning.

"I want to make that clear. He has not been cleared to play in the game Saturday night. Absolutely not," Meyer said after Tuesday's practice. "I don't think that (announcement) will happen for some time yet."

Most importantly, Tim Tebow seems to be recovering just fine. Anyone that saw the hit in Lexington felt sorry for him, his parents, and the rest of his family. He seems to have come through the toughest part of the recovery stage strongly and should be close to 100% by Saturday if everything keeps improving. In order for him to be cleared to practice on Tuesday, his symptoms had to have remained absent for a handful of days as well as he would've had to pass all of the tests ran by the medical and training staff.

If any of the symptons re-emege after practicing in the next handful of days, he will surely not be cleared to play in Death Valley.

Although none of the media got to see the practice, Meyer commented that the Heisman-winning quarterback looked like himself, which can't be a bad thing. He did have one caveat about that though. "Obviously, practice is a lot different than what's going to happen Saturday night. There's still a lot of evaluation to go."

In my opinion, the Gators have a strong likelihood of defeating LSU with or without Tim Tebow. Brantley is probably the 3rd or 4th best quarterback in the SEC, and Florida's strength right now is their running game.

Between Demps, Rainey, and Moody, Florida will look to open up the pass with the run against a tough LSU defense. Tebow adds to the running game, but I doubt he would see too many runs just 14 days after the concussion even if he was cleared.

In actuality, although Brantley is known as more of a pocket-passer, he carried more times than Tebow did against Charleston Southern and has shown some great running ability in his playing time he's had so far this season.

Whether it's Tebow or Brantley manning the offense on Saturday, this game is squarely in the hands of the #1 ranked defense in the country. Gator Nation has learned to rely on the defense many times before, and Saturday night in a loud and rowdy stadium against LSU will be another one of those times.
