Some New Sights in the Gators' Locker RoomThu, 06/25/2009 - 10:12am — Rusty Meyer being the best in the business at motivating his team, has added some new items to the walls in the Gators' locker room. Having a daily countdown to the rivalry games with Tenneessee, Georgia, and the "Team Out West" keeps them reminded of what's ahead of them in 2009. Suprisingly, Meyer has added a new rivalry to Florida's already long list, with the addition of the LSU Tigers. With LSU being the 2007 National Champion and the only team on the annual schedule to beat Meyer as much as he has beat them (2-2 record), it doesn't come as much of a surprise. Having a countdown to Atlanta reminds the team that there is one goal for this squad: Championships. And championships don't come around without a trip to Atlanta.
Here's a close-up of the Tennessee quotes and stories surrounding the infamous Lane Kiffin.
. Not only does Meyer not refer to the Tallahassee Trade School as FSU, but he won't allow it printed on the wall either. Although it looks like the week is blank on the schedule, there isn't any real Gator that doesn't know who we play that Thanksgiving weekend before the SEC Championship Game.
Here are highlight pictures of the beatdown of the Team Out West last year in Tallahassee.
. Here are the highlights of the revenge game against Georgia last year.
This board is one of the greatest ideas of all. After Meyer's first season in 2005, the Gators became known for allowing teams to hang around in the fourth quarter (i.e. Vandy, Arkansas, Auburn, South Carolina, etc.), Meyer made it his goal to have a team more tough in the fourth quarter from that year on. He did a phenomenal job as 2006 rolled around and the Gators made a habit of winning games in the fourth quarter. 2008 yielded the same results as the team had amazing fourth quarter stats, especially in the big games like the SEC and BCS Championships. This board will hopefully ecourage that to continue through the 2009 season and beyond as they're reminded daily of the importance of finishing games in the fourth quarter. These boards are for
These boards are for boosters and fans. 18 yr. olds aren't sitting out in the hallway looking at them doing pushups. UF's statistics may have improved in the 4th qtr. but generally I would think that's conditioning and run up trash points on lesser teams.
Listen, you guys got to keep Meyer at Florida. He walked into a primo situation with UM and Free Shoes not competing for Florida talent so he's had first pick. Plus, he got lucky with Tebow. So, now with Kiffin beating him to the punch in recruiting and FSU and UM on the quick rise, I want to see what kind of coach Meyer is when he has to work for it.
The best players make the best coaches. Look at Tennessee in '98. Nobody thinks of Fulmer at the best bench coach. However, there was a time when he was the best recruiter. No one argues that.
As a Tennessee fan right now we are really enjoying watching Alabama squirm in their own lack of integrity. At least they can't blame this one on Fulmer. Also, I look forward to seeing what kind of coach Meyer is because of this extreme "idolitry" that goes on in Florida with this guy who's player arrest record is at the top of the SEC as well.
Most agree he's gone after this year. He'll have no where to go but down in Florida as they won't be any better than they are right now. Plus, he'll have QB Hendrix from Moeller who just committed. Not to mention, he's named after a Pope and that's his dream job as he's stated early on. I really do hope he stays. Him leaving is like the lucky poker player that hits a big hand early then gets up and leaves.
He criticized Matthews for not being a "good gator" lol...a "good gator." We'll see what kind of "good gator" Meyer is after this year.
