Tennessee Coach Kiffin's SEC Antics Beginning to BackfireWed, 05/13/2009 - 8:30am — Ben New Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin's SEC antics are beginning to backfire. Kiffin’s newest controversy started when he insulted the school and the entire city of Pahokee, Florida after signing star wide receiver Nu’Kesse Richardson inhis 2009 recruiting class. Richardson was originally committed to become a Gator and was thought to be in the running against Andre Debose to replace Percy Harvin's position. Kiffin said "Someone at the school was going to screw it up ... The fax machine wouldn't work, or they would have changed the signatures - all the things that go on in Pahokee," and "For those of you who haven't been to Pahokee, there ain't much going on. You take that hour drive up from South Florida, there ain't a gas station that works. Nobody's got enough money to even have shoes or a shirt on." Kiffin was essentially saying that Richardson’s family and school would purposely not fax the papers correctly because they wanted him to sign with Florida. In the second quote, Kiffin is calling Pahokee a run-down, poor community. This may not be the best tactic to pick up recruits in South Florida, one of the most loaded regions in the nation. As one of the regional powerhouses, Pahokee churns out as many star division one players as any other school in the nation. Pahokee alone has produced NFL Pro Bowler Anquan Boldin(WR), Wake Forest's Alphonso Smith (CB), who had 21 interceptions in his career at Wake Forest and was drafted 37th overall by the Broncos, Florida State's Antone Smith (RB), and one of the best freshman in the nation in Gator corner Janoris Jenkins - just to name a few. Pahokee will continue to produce stars and it doesn't look like Tennessee will be in the mix for a while. Tennessee Assistant Coach Eddie Gran came to the school to offer a scholarship to top prospect junior Antonio Ford and was told that the Tennessee staff were not allowed on campus. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Pahokee Principal Ariel Alejo has said that Tennessee’s coaching staff is not allowed to be on the school grounds. They have gone as far as contacting the SEC offices and the Tennessee athletic department about Kiffin’s remarks. Pahokee football coach Blaze Thompson said, "At no time has a coach or administrator convinced or coerced a player or changed legal documents.” Thompson was infuriated over Kiffin’s remarks and demanded an apology. Coach Kiffin has since apologized, but don’t expect Coach Thompson to be pushing his star athletes to become Vols any time soon. The Pahokee school administrators are requesting a public apology rather than the private one that has been issued. The brash comments made by Lane Kiffin in his first couple months as Tennessee head coach have begun to come back to hurt him already. There were a few more comments Kiffin made that should come back to bite him on September 19th in the Swamp, or should I say chomp him. Needless to say, Monte (Lane's father) needs to remind his son about the old saying, ' Don't writes checks with your mouth that your tail can't cash.' I will say this: In two
I will say this: In two years the last thing that the National Champion Tennessee and its fans will be eaten up with is 5-7 Florida and their new coach.
The funny thing about all
The funny thing about all this is that Kiffin is in Meyer's head like Spurrier was in Fulmer's. It will get worse for Florida too when Tennessee starts winning. One thing for sure the ship is righted and florida will never be better than they are at this moment. So enjoy it while you can.
This is a good site! The
This is a good site! The poll I just voted in was interesting too. Tennessee is by 57% voted the biggest rival of florida by it's fans. What? We're 5-7 last year. What a show of respect! lol. Okay, I'm just playing around. I know why were so highly thought of.....because you know what's coming.
Really? Florida is the best
Really? Florida is the best they'll ever be? Are you sure? I thought next year, we'd go ahead and play in the Super Bowl and see how we do there!
No sh*t sherlock! Of course we're the best we'll ever be. We're defending National Champions and pre-season #1 for next season as well. You can't get any better than that. Even if we won 5 BCS Championships in a row, you can't get any better than defending national champions and ranked #1. So, good job at pointing out the obvious.
Once again, you've showed how much you Vols foam at the mouth over Meyer leaving. Yes, at some point, he will leave. I will give you that. It may be next year and it may be 10 years, but it still won't allow us to go so low as 5-7 and losing to Wyoming! Even with ZOOK, we were 8-5 and went to bowl games! (and we fired him for that record!)
By the way, Zook reminds me of someone up there in Tennessee. He sure could recruit and look good in the recruiting rankings, but never could coach all that well.....hmmmm.....and you're already predicting championships in 2 years before he coaches 1 game? lol. I thought you were dreaming about Meyer leaving, but now you're just off the reservation!!
It's Great to be a Florida Gator!
kiffin should have kept his
kiffin should have kept his mouth shut about the pahokee community but looks like he was on track about this Ariel dude. now changing his web-site and among other things $$$$$$.
What it's going to come down
What it's going to come down to, as with every coach, is winning. You guys will love him if he can win. But, my guess is that he can't and that he'll be run out of Rocky Top in 3-4 years.
Well.....that's a very nice
Well.....that's a very nice unsubstantiated prediction. You are right wether at florida or Tennessee you have to win. Let's look at what we can say now. Kiffin has been successful at USC as a coordinator. He has assembled what the pundants say is the best staff in the country. We are already getting the top players in the country, which we hadn't except for Eric Berry in 7 years. Also, Tenn. has swagger again and an incredible intensity and work ethic. All these things lead to good things.
Florida is great no doubt, but you can't with credibility run down Tennessee's efforts to get back in the SEC. Tennessee is on the rise, Meyer especially if he wins it again, has nothing more to prove at florida and his team goes pro. That's why the entire nation has speculated he's going to the coach the irish. So, have a good season and we'll see what happens. Whatever you do though, don't lost to Tennessee.
Man, is that Moreno getting
Man, is that Moreno getting jacked? youtube Eric Berry hits Moreno. He didn't have fun in either game.
No doubt. Both are great
No doubt. Both are great hits. No-show Moreno may be making tons in the NFL, but he definitley didnt enjoy his final year in Georgia very much!!
PS- One thing Gators and Vols can agree on...GEORGIA SUCKS! :)
"Gator born, Gator bred, and when I die I'll be Gator dead"
All things considered
All things considered barring something extraordinary, Georgia is probably our best shot at a quality SEC win this year. So far, comments aside, Kiffin has exceeded all expectations in every area. If the same happens this fall, we will have a shot. Playing florida competitive for 4 qtrs would be a move in the right direction although moral victories only count at Vanderbilt.
