Besides the fact that the Gators are loaded with oodles of talent and blazing speed, along with powerful leadership and brilliant coaching, they have another advantage for the BCS title game. The Oklahoma Sooners have the Heisman Trophy winner, Sam Bradford, as their starting quarterback.

Why, might you ask, do the Gators want their opponent to have the Heisman winner take the field against them this January? It is called the Heisman curse.

Many have tried the feat to win both the Heisman and the BCS Championship game in the same season. Many have failed. Only one was able to accomplish that feat: Matt Leinart and his USC Trojans defeated Oklahoma in 2005.

The only explanation that I have for Matt and USC to beat the curse—they also had another Heisman winner on the field at the same time, Reggie Bush. Although Bush did not win the Heisman until the next season, we all know what kind of electrifying capabilities he had.

For those other teams who have had the Heisman winner on the field during the title game, it was not enough. In fact, it was not even close. Most teams were embarrassed during the championship game. The teams who have had the Heisman and have lost the title game have been outscored 153-82. The losing team has averaged just 16 points per game, well below their season average.

Chris Weinke was the first to give it a try. His team managed a stunning two points! That’s right—they did not score any points with their offense. The next to give it a go-around was Eric Crouch. He managed to put up some staggering offensive numbers: five completions for 62 yards! Nebraska did not score a point until the second half, when the game was already in the books.

Then came another Big 12 embarrassment, Jason White. He managed to complete 35 percent of his passes for a total of 102 yards. We all know the unforgettable game when Reggie Bush and his Trojans were defeated by Texas in the final moments of the game. Storyline for Bush: He was left on the sideline for a crucial 4th-and-1 in which Texas stuffed the run to get the ball back and win the game.

Troy Smith is the latest to give it a try, and his team suffered a 41-14 butt-kicking vs. Florida. His numbers: 4-14 for 35 yards, 1-9 on third downs, and he managed his offense to a net total of 82 yards.

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out these are not staggering numbers. Bottom line is that Heisman trophy winners do not play well in the BCS title games, and their teams fail to produce as well.

For Urban Meyer and the Gators, they might not have the Heisman in the trophy case along the infamous hallways of the Florida football complex this year, but they will add another BCS Championship trophy to that case.

My prediction: Florida will win this game and win it big, 41-24 final.
