Is Alabama-Florida the Real National Championship Game?

It can be logically argued that no team in college football is playing better than the Florida Gators are right now. The Gators outscore their opponents by an average of 24 points per game, own the top turnover margin in the nation, and since their loss to Ole Miss in late September, they have destroyed teams by a 414-97 margin.

However, this game will come down to defense, which just so happens to be the Alabama Crimson Tide’s strength. The Tide are allowing just 11.5 points per game and fewer than 250 total yards. Their defensive front four is one of the best in the nation and as a unit, the Crimson Tide defense is the sixth best in all of college football.

This SEC Championship game may be a battle of the best two college football teams of the nation and therefore, could be considered the real national title game.

The line that has Florida picked by 10 is ridiculous.  This will be a tough-fought boxing match.  Alabama is undefeated and their few close calls throughout the year will only help them if this SEC Championship Game turns out to be a dogfight.

The question will be whether or not Alabama can produce enough offense to win. Their running game is solid with Glen Coffee, but they are going to have an incredibly hard time putting the ball in the air against a Florida team that is allowing just 172.9 yards per game this season.

I am predicting Florida to win but Alabama to cover the point spread of 10. The Gators just have too many weapons, assuming that Percy Harvin plays, and Tim Tebow makes things happen around the goal line.

Florida’s defense should contain John Parker Wilson and the Alabama passing attack, although they might have trouble keeping Coffee contained because the Crimson Tide can dominate the line of scrimmage.
