GT.com's Top Ten Super Bowl Commercials of 2009Mon, 02/02/2009 - 1:19pm — Gator TailgatingIf you want to be able to know what people are talking about when they're "standing around the water cooler" today, I advise that you read this article and watch the videos. Everyone knows that the first couple days after the Super Bowl are filled with conversations about the funniest commercials more than the actual football game itself. Sure, the catch was amazing, as was the Cardinal's fourth quarter comeback, but really. We all know that pro football has nothing on college. So, let's start the countdown of the top 10 Super Bowl Commercials of 2009. 10. Cash4Gold.com's "Ed McMahon" - Everyone has seen the stupid Cash4Gold.com commercials where they show people putting all their jewlery in a little envelope and getting a thousand dollar check back in the mail for $200 worth of jewlery. Finally, they've made it interesting. By making fun of well-known and widely reported celebrity financial hardships (Ed McMahon and M.C. Hammer), the commercial came off funny, although it wasn't hilarious. That's why it sneaks in at number 10 on our list.
9. Bud Light starring Conan O'Brien - Conan is just a funny guy in general and the commercial was very like his natural style of comedy. It also has some truth to it as a lot of actors won't do commercials in the States that they're willing to do elsewhere.
8. Pepsi Max "Pepsuber" - You either want your ad to be really funny or really stupid so people will talk about it later. This commercial fits exactly into the second description. It is a spin-off of the hit 80's show, MacGuyver, and pulls off a stunt of being so stupid you can't help but laugh.
7. Budwieser "Clydesdale Fetch" - This year's Super Bowl Commercials had a lot of slots revolving around animals, and this one is the first to appear on our list. It's classic Budweiser style to have commercials revolving around their Clydesdales. Remember the one where they kick the field goal? That one still sticks out in my mind, but this one was pretty good too. Anybody wonder what ever happened to the Bud Bowl?
6. Teleflora "Mean Flowers" - This is great because it's right around the corner from Valentine's Day, and who wants to send something to your significant other that says "You're fat, ugly, and I don't like seeing you naked!" ? For some of you, it may be exactly what you want to say to your significant other.
5. Doritos "Crystal Ball" - There's no way this ad couldn't be funny when you see a guy's boss get hit in his junk with a heavy object. Come to think of it, a lot of ads really revovled around people getting hurt too. People must love animals and seeing people get hurt this year.
4. Pepsi Max "I'm good" - Okay okay. Obviously, I think it's funny to see people get hurt. I'll admit it. This is a good one if you have the same sense of humor I do. Lots of random pain on this slot.
3. GoDaddy.com "Shower" - 3 guys think they can make anything happen now that they have the power of a GoDaddy.com website. Need I say more than 3 guys sitting around a computer getting to watch whatever they want? Danica Patrick begins her 5th shower of the day as their German Professor joins her in the shower. Probably NSFW.
2. Pedigree "Crazy Pets" - I've always enjoyed the "Dogs rule" commercials from Pedigree because I own 3 dogs and would love to have more. But, those wouldn't really work for a Super Bowl commercial. So when I heard they were one of the advertisers, I wondered what they would do and how it would go over. By changing it up from a heart-string pulling commercial to a comical spot, they really nailed it.
1. CareerBuilder.com "It may be time." - I love the "daydream of punching small animals" part. Yes PETA, it was funny watching a fake Koala get punched. Get over it. It also was a good commercial because it actually had something to do with their product, unlike Pepsi, GoDaddy.com, Doritos, Budwieser, and Bud Light.
Honorable mention: Budwieser's "Clydesdale Circus," Bridgestone's "Mr & Mrs. Potato Head," and Coca-Cola's "Heist". READ SIMILAR STORIES
