Although the Gators wanted the offense to get in sync in Saturday's game, it was the defense that got the scoring started. On the fifth play from scrimmage, Brandon Spikes intercepted a pass in the flat and took it 41 yards for a pick-six and they never let up from then on.
The Gators first offensive possesion ended with a 55-yard Tebow touchdown run where he stiff-armed 2 players while streaking down the sideline for the score. At that point, there was still more than 9 minutes left in the first quarter and Florida was up 14-0.
The dismantling of the Golden Panthers continued from there with Chris Rainey catching a 27-yard touchdown pass and running for a22-yard touchdown as well. Jeff Demps got in from 3 yards out as well to make the score 35-3 heading in for the half.
The second half started with Tebow and the starters going out for one more drive and throwing a nice 18-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper. John Brantley didn't let the Panther defense rest either though, going 9 for 13, 146 yards, and 3 touchdowns in under 2 quarters of playing time. He tossed touchdowns to to Omarius Hines, Frankie Hammond, and Justin Williams.
After a final score of 62-3, the Gators can focus squarely on the School Out West, otherwise known as Florida State. FSU defeated Maryland Saturday to become bowl eligible, and their offense looks to be a force in spite of losing their starting quarterback earlier in the season. Their defense is another story though, as they have given up more big plays than most teams in the country this season.
Urban Meyer is 4-0 against FSU and the Gators have a 5-game winning streak dating back to Ron Zook beating the 'Noles in Doak Campbell Stadium in 2004. Kickoff is set at 3:30 EST.
