Gators Finish Season in Spectacular Fashion by Dismantling CincySat, 01/02/2010 - 10:17am — Mike Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Charlie Strong, and corners coach Vance Bedford all finished out their careers as Gators by completely dismantling the Cincinnati Bearcats 51-24 in the 2009 Allstate Sugar Bowl. Tebow performed what will go down as one of his most spectacular performances ever with 482 passing yards, and 51 rushing yards including one rushing touchdown. Florida finished with 659 offensive yards, which is a Sugar Bowl record. Florida’s Defense kept its side of the bargain by holding pass-happy Cincinnati to 170 passing yards and 76 rushing yards. Junior corner Joe Haden had several high profile pass breakups that are sure to boost his NFL stock this coming draft (Haden is projected to go as high as the fourth overall pick in this year’s NFL draft). The Gators’ defensive line scored 4 sacks against Cincinnati including two from Carlos Dunlap, whose presence was desperately needed at the SEC Championship game. This game caps an emotional, distraction-riddled season for the Gators. With so many distractions including the pressure to remain #1, concussions, eye-gouging, Dunlap, Strong leaving, and Meyer deciding to step down and then to stay, its great to see the most winning class in SEC history do what they do best: administer an old-fashioned out-of-conference beatdown! That was the beating I needed to see. That was the note I needed to see "The Boys From Ol' Florida" walk out on. They could have scored more if they wanted to. The Ol' Ball Coach himself would have been proud of a score like that. That was what I needed to get that taste out of my mouth, because when it was over; I enjoyed watching Tebow in post game interview, laughing, smiling and happy which is how I will always remember him.
National Championship or not, It no longer means what I thought it would. What meant the most to me was knowing that the Seniors and Tim would leave on a good note. Ofcourse I did not realize that until last night when I saw our boy laugh again. That win, and in that style of a win, I cant complain about a thing. The ending was as sweet as I could have wanted, Natty or not.Thank you Seniors!!!!
Thank you to the Greatest and Winningist Class In SEC History.
I dont think even the lil haters can spoil this one for me now. I do welcome them to try
