Five Tips for Tailgating at the Arkansas Game

Smoking the Boar Hog

Cook the Hog – For those of you that enjoy pork, this is your tailgate. Whatever you cook, as long as it's from a pig, it will be themed for the team we play on homecoming: Hot dogs, Sausage, Ribs, or even Pigs in Blankets all give you that satisfaction of chowing down on your opponent.

For the GT crew, we'll be eating "Razorback Ribs" that will be absolutley delicious, but you could even go as far as to cook a whole boar hog like Walt did in the "hot box" in the picture above.

Gameday Tailgate Weather

Weather – This could be the best weather for any tailgate all season long, so make sure you enjoy it whole-heartedly. With a high of 75,a full day of sun, and no rain in sight; it should be extremely comfortable while grilling your Hog meat on Saturday. Just bring a coat if you plan on tailgating early, because the low is 48. Sounds like the perfect Fall Saturday for a football game!

Tailgating with HogsCalling the Hogs -  Being that we only play Arkansas twice every eight years (except for the occasional meeting in Atlanta) many Gators may not remember the most annoying part of the Razorbacks coming to Gainesville. It's not their fans, their football team, or even their colors. It's their cheer. When they "call the hogs," they don't only do it once. It has to be done 3 time back to back, and they do it over and over.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Arkansas fans and actually had a great time in 2006 tailgating with many of them at the SEC Championship game. The cheer got so annoying at that game though that I actually began to lead the cheer to make fun of them. My friends and I would start the cheer and then correct  them, "You aren't doing it right! Make sure to use your 'spirit fingers'!" Here's the cheer that you will be ready to never hear again after Saturday's game.

Swine FluDrink the Swine Flu and the Vaccine– Besides the Famous Bourbon Meyer, there have been two drinks that have been growing in popularity more than any other this season. The Swine Flu is a simple Long Island Iced Tea with a different name, but the vaccine is really where it's at. The Vaccine is also known as Gator Whiz and tastes absolutey amazing. Both are made in Water cooler jugs and mixed for a large tailgating group. Here's a warning though: The Vaccine will slip up on you if you aren't careful. If mixed correctly, you cannot taste the alcohol at all and you will drink more than you want to.

Swine Flu

  • Liter of cola
  • 8oz Vodka
  • 8oz Tequila
  • 8oz Gin
  • 8oz Rum
  • 6 lemons

The Vaccine (Gator Whiz)

  • Liter of sprite
  • 16oz Vodka
  • 8oz Tequila
  • 12oz Lime Juice

Get There Early – This is becoming a weekly point, but it is a must do. With the perfect weather, a good SEC opponent coming to town, and it being Homecoming week, why would you want to sleep in on Saturday?  If you can’t wake up early to load the truck and be at the stadium by 7:30 this week, you shouldn’t call yourself TailGator.
