Complacency Hopefully Not an Issue for 2009 Gator FootballFri, 03/27/2009 - 9:21pm — Gator Tailgating After winning the National Championship in 2006, Florida coach Urban Meyer described spring practice the following year as one of the toughest ever. Unfortunately for the Gators, what Meyer meant by tough was not tough on the players, but tough on the coaches. Meyer and his staff struggled to keep the team focused and looking to better themselves, as attitudes and a sense of entitlement abounded throughout the Gator locker room, as a result of their BCS National Championship. The results were evident in the Gators' 2007 season. After suffering a disappointing four loss season, the Gators entered spring practice in 2008 with a new vigilance. Players competed harder than they had ever competed, hoping to erase the memory of the disappointing year. Again, the results were tangible, as Florida once again won the BCS National Championship. So, heading into spring practice this year, Meyer and his staff have learned their lesson. They will have their hands full trying to keep the Gators focused and working on improving during spring practice. Luckily for Meyer and his staff, this time they'll have alot more help. With unquestioned senior leaders Tim Tebow and Brandon Spikes returning, the Gators should once again have that same fire that they showed during spring practice last year. That spells trouble for the rest of the Southeastern Conference and the college football world. Thomas Goldkamp is one of the owners of SECSportsHub.com and is a main contributor here on GT.com.
